President’s Report Sep 2026

Our vision for the community is to enable the use of 100% local renewable energy, that is 100% Community Energy. We now have the foundations in place to achieve this with the Community Energy Program, Cera the CE reporting app and the Alphington community-battery (BESS) all up and running.

We know from the Cera reports that the annual baseline for the use of Community Energy (CE) by our participant community is 56-57% of their total energy. So what will it take to get to 100% CE? And how long will it take us? I am not asking the question, can we get there. Given all the challenges we have faced to get this far, I know that we can do it, we just have to figure out how

There are many levers to pull and buttons to push to help along. They include adjusting our home energy use patterns to more consumption during the day and less in the evenings; install more solar systems including on apartments; more home batteries and of course use of our Alphingington BESS. The current baseline does not include the community-battery.

The participants in the CE Program will be figuring this out. So if you would like to join the challenge, apply to join the program.
