Why get involved with Village Power?
Village Power aims to demonstrate that the Fairfield - Alphington community can significantly reduce carbon emissions by increasing the utilisation of Community Energy. Rooftop solar, combined with a community battery and home batteries will increase the generation and availability of local renewable energy, referred to as Community Energy.
By getting involved, you’ll be part of a local project testing ideas that could help communities play a bigger role in the clean energy transition.

What does being a Community Member involve?
Firstly, the Community Energy program is free to join. It will involve some time to learn about your energy use and explore ways to reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint.
Participants will be asked to:
Spend around 1 hour per month learning about and reflecting on household energy use
Attend a few community events each year
Share feedback through surveys, discussions or group activities
Allow access to smart meter data so the project can understand energy use patterns (data is analysed securely and reported anonymously)
The program will run for 5 years to build knowledge about how communities can use more locally generated renewable energy. Members will initially commit to 12 months.
At the end of each year, a share of any profit generated by the battery will be allocated to active community members.
