Launch of the Banyule Community Battery

Village Power congratulates our neighbour, Banyule, on the recent launch of the Banyule Community Battery which has been implemented by Jemena under the 400 Battery Initiative of the Federal Government. This is a solar soaker battery, importing excess solar from 11am - 4pm and exporting it back between 7 - 9pm. The battery will supply the equivalent of 165 homes with 2 and 1/2 power in the evenings as well as stabilising the grid.

Banyule's battery is situated in the Cyril Cummins Reserve at the south end of Liberty Parade, Bellfield. It's well worth a visit. The beautiful art work is by Felicity Gordon, a well known local artist, and references local fauna and flora. The artwork is printed on vinyl wrap and applied to the battery in the factory and this prevents graffiti.

Village Power board members, Robin Gale-Baker left in the photo above and Randall Pearce right, attended the launch. Robin and Randall got the Banyule battery rolling back in 2021, receiving a Banyule City Council grant for a feasibility study for 4 sites in Banyule. Banyule City Council were then awarded a battery and employed Jemena to build it.
