Why get involved with Village Power?

Village Power aims to demonstrate that the Fairfield - Alphington community can significantly reduce carbon emissions by increasing the utilisation of Community Energy.  Rooftop solar, combined with a community battery and home batteries will increase the generation and availability of local renewable energy, referred to as Community Energy.

By getting involved, you’ll be part of a local project testing ideas that could help communities play a bigger role in the clean energy transition.

What does being a Community Member involve?

Community Members take part in the Village Power Community Energy Program, helping test how households can better use local renewable energy.

Participants will be asked to:

  • Spend around 1 hour per month learning about and reflecting on household energy use

  • Attend a few community events each year

  • Share feedback through surveys, discussions or group activities

  • Allow access to smart meter data so the project can understand energy use patterns (data is analysed securely and reported anonymously)

The program runs for around 12 months and helps build knowledge about how communities can use more locally generated renewable energy.
