About the neighbourhood battery project

Village Power is delivering a Local Renewable Energy (LRE) demonstration project that will see a community-owned battery installed at 2 Wingrove Street, Alphington, near the entrance to the Alphington Farmers’ Market.

The battery will store locally generated solar energy and release it when needed — helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels and making renewable energy more accessible to the community.

This artwork project is funded by a community grant from Bendigo Bank East Ivanhoe branch. The battery is funded through the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action

About the artwork

The Community Art Project aims to:

  • Present the battery as modern, shared community infrastructure

  • Reflect public ownership and participation

  • Celebrate local climate action

  • Connect the project to the people, place and culture of Alphington and Fairfield

One artwork will be selected to be professionally printed and installed as a vinyl wrap on the battery.
